Taekwondo is a martial art whose origins can be traced back to 200 years before in korea. It is not only an art of self defense but is also a way of life. It symbolizes an idea of moral rearmament. It seeks to indicate all qualities of courtesy, Integrity , perseverance, self controls, and an indomitable spirit in the individual.

Over the last decade, the sport has been recognized internationally. It is now an important item of competition both in the world Olympics and the Asian games. The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) is the international body recognized by the International Olympic committee. The Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU) is the body affiliate the WTF which promotes the spirit in Asia . In India TFI affiliated to the WTF is the only national body recognized by Govt. of Indian Olympic Association Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) ,Kendriya Vidyalaya(KV) ,Delhi Public School (DPS) School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and Sports Authority of India (SAI), Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
In Kerala TAKE is the authorized body affiliated to Kerala State Sports Authority recognized by Govt.of India .It is an important event in the school games and university meets Govt. of Kerala through the directorate of sports and youth affairs and the directorate of public instructions has launched a school programme for promotion of Taekwondo in the state.

This most famous and prominent business centre even in the days of the East India company was well known for the Martial arts like Kalarippayattu and at present concentrating more on Taekwondo.

Peringathur
It is believed that the name “Peringathur” was derived from Peringalath Ur, which means the place where great wars took place. It gradually came to be known as Peringathur. An ashram of the renowned hermit “Nithya Chaithanya Yathi” is present here on a small hill, Kanakamala.

Peringathur town is situated in the southern border of Kannur district. This town comes under the Panoor Municipality and is 6 km away from The Union Territory, Mahe. Mayyazhi river flows through this town. Nearest towns include Panoor, Nadapuram, Kadavathur, Chokli, Thalassery and Kuthuparamba.
